A son mobilizes his parents for not doing Child Marriage
Khajuraul village of Ghorawal block Sonebhadra is situated at distance of 15 KM south from Shahganj on Shahganj-Ghorawal roads. Satyam son of Bimlesh Kumar and Asha Devi lives in this village. Satyam is eldest son (18 year) and his two younger brother Sundaram and Uma are 16 and 14 year respectively. Satyam belongs to a poor Brahmin Family, his father is the bread winner of the family via Jajmani (by conducting rituals for the other Hindu families).
Field Animator DEHAT visited his house first time SHG listing on 10/2/2012, while discussion with other family members on 10 Child Friendly Agenda. Satyam’s father arrived home and after discussion on Child Marriages and its consequences he promised to Field Animator that he will get his son married after 21 years.
On 15/02/2012 Field Animator DEHAT come to know from Satyam that his father has fixed his engagement ceremony on 16th of this month. Satyam was worried about the matter. On same day Field Animator again went to his father and counseled Satyam’s father and told that marrying son before the age of 21 year is illegal and prohibited.
In the evening Satyam called Field Animator and told him that his father agreed and cancelled the engagement ceremony. On 19th of February Field Animator went Satyam’s house and met his father Bimlesh, both were happy and Bimlesh promised that he will marry all his son after the age of 21 years.
